Meet Ivy Synnestvedt
Tell us what you're passionate about.
“Dancing! I love dancing - all styles,
but tap has been my longest love. I'm a proud member of inFlux Dance Company
under the direction of Jessica Bostock. And of course, singing. There's nothing
quite like creating a piece of art with other people, whether it's with bodies
or voices. I am particularly passionate about teaching teenagers dance. It's so
rewarding to see kids going through some of their most awkward years of growth
and come out feeling more confident and powerful in their own skin.”
What is your occupation/profession?
“Mostly I'm an administrative assistant
and academic advisor to undeclared students at Bryn Athyn College. When I get
the chance, I also teach dance and assistant choreograph and/or direct high
school and college shows.”
Have a hobby?
“I'm an avid Sudoku and jigsaw puzzle
doer, and I love crocheting.”
What do you consider your most
notable achievements?
“My senior dance piece, "As in
heaven, so upon the earth," is definitely one of my proudest
accomplishments. It was a 20 minute, 5 movement modern piece about the ways God
has reached out to humanity in different ways through time, in order to reach
people in their varying states. I researched theological works and famous dance
pieces for it, choreographed and taught it, and created the lighting design and
costumes. Also marrying Greg Synnestvedt. ;D”
Do you have a charity suggestion we
can keep in mind?
“I don't have a specific one, but
anything that will help children in difficult situations thrive. I should look
into some good charities that do that.”
Skills, services, goods available to
other in WCCP?
“I love teaching dance and helping
people of all ages feel more comfortable in their bodies. I'd also love to bake
for you when I have free time! I've been told that I give pretty great hugs,
and I'd happily snuggle any babies should the need arise.”
Favorite book?
“I can't pick one. The Secret Life of
Bees by Sue Monk Kidd and The Help by Kathryn Stockett are two of the best. But
I'm also a complete Harry Potter nerd - that series has majorly influenced my
life.”
